Employment Services

Jefferson County Department of Social Services (DSS) is committed to building a strong workforce in our community through various activities. The Employment and Training Unit is responsible for the operation of the Welfare to Work program. This unit works with TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families), Safety Net families and individuals as well as SNAP recipients who are determined to be Able Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWD) to help them enter the workforce, with the goal of achieving self-sufficiency.

All employable Temporary Assistance and ABAWD recipients are required to participate in programs or actually be working a certain number of hours each week in order to be eligible for continued assistance without penalty. Through a variety of job training programs and educational services, the Employment and Training Unit assists these individuals with finding employment and provides assistance with obtaining necessary support services which may be necessary to participate in employment or job-readiness activities. Such supports may include, but are not limited to: licensing fees, transportation and child care subsidy funding.

If you have any questions, please call The Employment and Training Unit at (315) 786-3651 for assistance.
