K9 Abel, born in Ontario, Canada on March 12, 2016, is a Belgian Malinois that joined the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office K9 Unit in March of 2017. His handler is Deputy Sheriff Jeffrey M. Froelich. K9 Abel is a dual-purpose K9 that is trained and certified in patrol tracking, including suspect apprehension and K9 handler protection. In addition, Abel is also trained and certified in advanced narcotics detection. He is named after Jefferson County's first Sheriff, Dr. Abel Sherman. 


K9 Lafferty is a Belgian Malinois named after our 56th Sheriff, James L. Lafferty. K9 Lafferty joined the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office on December 16th 2021. He is a dual-purpose K9, trained and certified in narcotics detection, tracking, searches, obedience, criminal apprehension, and handler protection. His handler is Deputy Sheriff Christian Hughes. 

K9 O'Nei was born on July 10, 2017. K9 O'Nei is named after Sheriff Al O'Neill, who served from 1977 to 1985. He is certified in explosive detection, tracking and handler protection. His handler and partner is Deputy Sheriff Adam B. Hallett.
